Pending's Biography
Started when three friends (Jonathan Talsma-james, Oscar Turner and Rasal Ahmed) wanted to start a band. Starting a band called "The Electric Bandit". The name was chosen after drummer Turner used a random name generator and "Electric Bandit" was the only name that the trio liked. After two years of limited success and writers block the group decided to take a fresh start at school in September 2012 in Music BTEC. Renaming themselves "Pending" as they were unable to decide on a suitable name at the time. It was decided unanimously that Pending should be the permanent name for the band as they felt it fit with their music style.
The original line-up Featured Omari Grant on Vocals and Arjan Safri on keys. Also Feat. Navdeep Ghataora on Guitar and occasionally Bass (when Ahmed was unavailable) and Oliver "Ollie" Cave on keys and guitar, as Safri soon proved uninterested in performing outside of BTEC Music. Safri has not feat. in any of the live shows or on any of the studio recordings since expressing his feelings.
There has been much confusion as to the actual line-up of the band, rumors of "Haunted" Guitarist Ishmael Roberts being Pending's lead guitarist are false. Roberts, However is a good friend of the band and has expressed wishes for the bands to support each other in live shows in the future, despite massive differences in musical style. The main line-up of Pending consists of Jonathan Talsma-james on Guitar & Vocals, Oscar Turner on Drums & Percussion and Rasal Ahmed on Bass Guitar with Cave on Keys and Guitar in studio as well as Ghataora on guitar and backup bass and Cave for live shows. Cave and Ghataora are both good friends of the band and practice with them frequently when not working on their main projects A.I.A.D. and Error 403 respectively. Ghataora has expressed that he would not to appear on any of the studio recordings as he feels that it would take diversity from their live shows. His wishes have thus far been honored.
The main point of controversy surrounds position of Omari Grant as lead vocalist. Grant was only meant appear on recordings as part of the BTEC, but due to mixed messages and Grant's appearances on Pending's earliest work; it was assumed that Grant was a permanent member and part of the main line-up. This was untrue however as Grant was only ever meant to be part of the Music BTEC recordings as suggested to the original trio by Iain Marshallsay (Music BTEC teacher at Hamstead Hall CLC).Grant however is still accredited for lyrics for "Heartbroken" and "Shadows to Glory" but has not expressed any further wishes to perform with the group after BTEC choosing to go into the study of animals instead as his main pursuit. Pending has since been on the search for a new vocalist posting on the wall of their facebook page "Important news about the lead singer to be announced soon!" posted the night after their second live performance with Grant. Unable to find a suitable local replacement guitarist Talsma-james took up lead singer duties as he had during their Electric Bandit and Facepalm days and the band have been thus far pleased with the progress made since.
The Bands musical style is ska influenced alternative rock with slight indie feel. Pending's main influence according to Turner and Talsma-james is KID; After seeing them live, the two were inspired to work on the band with a greater passion. Pending's guitarist and main writer Talsma-james has an unusual playing style that differs greatly between tracks. "Heartbroken" is a more ska influenced rock song (Supposedly inspired by gang of four song) where as "Shadows to Glory" is a more acoustic guitar style however Talsma-james has exclusively played electric in all live shows to date. Along with Grant's quirky pop-esque lyrics and catchy melody hooks it creates a very unique sound. Post-Grant lyrics have been written mainly by Turner and Talsma-james and have swayed mainly towards an indie influence. The trio's unique sound can mainly be attributed to the bands diverse tastes in music. Ahmed has a much more pop punk and hardcore background but a very adaptive bass playing style working well with both Turner and Talsma-james; Turner has more christian rock and indie background and Talsma-james a more alternative background. However all the band share similar tastes in music and love to rock.
